The 5th Friday in Lent 2019

For the enemy has pursued my soul; he has crushed my life to the ground; he has made me sit in darkness like those long dead. Psalm 143:3

Here in verse 3 we see why the Psalmist asked for his prayers and pleas to be heard in verse 1.

As God’s people, we face enemies that despise Christ.

In response to Christ, they go after His people.

Life in Christ is to know reliance on Him alone as we suffer for His sake.

Jesus Christ endured all of these pursuits, times of being crushed, and the darkness of death for to free us from the penalty of sin.

Yet, we still in Christ are called to tell others of this great Gospel.

Just as in the earthly ministry of Jesus, our enemies do not want this saving Gospel out in the open.

They want it crushed and sitting in a dark corner of a library, away from souls that desperately need to hear it.

We face our enemies and the wounds they give by Christ’s loving presence. He is with us as we endure for His Name’s sake.

Almighty God, help us as we suffer by the pursuit and attacks of our enemies. Deliver us from their temptations, that we may endure to the end in your grace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
