The 5th Sunday in Lent 2019

I remember the days of old; I meditate on all that you have done; I ponder the work of your hands. Psalm 143:5

When afflictions and tribulations hit and we feel as verse 4, all we have left is Jesus Christ.

All we have is to remember times of old.

Where do we turn for the times of old?

Do we turn to the good old days of our lives, or of time periods we think were good?

We remember the days of old as recounted in God’s Holy Word, of His wonderful redemption of humanity through Jesus Christ.

We meditate not on our pasts where we thought things were going well.

We meditate upon all that God has done through Jesus Christ.

We do not ponder upon times where we thought the works of our hands were decent.

We ponder upon the work of His hands to save us.

In His works that we remember we can endure all afflictions.

In meditating upon all that He has done through Christ, we can endure all tribulations.

In pondering all His works for us through Jesus Christ, we can endure all troubles.

Almighty God, help us to daily remember the wonderful days of old of all that you have done, the work of your hands for our redemption. Enable us through our afflictions to turn to you alone in remembrance, meditation, and pondering; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
